Founded on May 5th, 1915, Windermere was originally 100 acres which was auctioned off and incorporated under the council-manager form of government. Based on the Town of Windermere in England, the crest displays four distinct features of the area. The top left quarter displays three Windermere class yachts, which were quite famous at one time while the top right quarter is shows an ancient gate indicating Windermere as the gateway to the Lake District. The bottom left quarter represents the flag of Saint George and the bottom right shows three char, a rare and delicious species of trout caught in Lake Windermere. Windermere is somewhat of a rare and exquisite town in itself so the crest is definitely appropriate.
